The Story Engine Deck

You need some GOOD inspirations, GET THIS DECK. It has helped me SEVERAL times before. It's called the Story Engine Deck.

Think of it as a card game, but for authors. There several different decks to choose from: Character, Setting, Plot, Genre, you name it, it's there.

I don't have enough praise or words to say how wonderful this product is. The creator is a GENUIS!

Books, Books, Books

I am a reader, I love to read. My niche is mostly fantasy and romance. Though I enjoy a good book, I read for other reasons.

Learning from other authors is the best to improve your writing skills. I've read a good deal of fictional stories and learned so much from them. From story structure to print structure, it's always a good idea otherwise learn from those who came from you.

Pick up a book, one that falls in to the same genre as the one you are wanting write. Notice the length, how the chapters are organized, everything. This gives you an idea as to how your book should look and how long your story should be.

There are so many teachers out there, you just have to pick them up off the shelf.

Inspiration is Simple

Inspiration is the muse to any author's tale. Without inspiration, no words can enter the page.

My first stories were inspired by Japanese Animation. I've taken that and ran with it and it has proven to work for me.

I taught The Hobbit in my classroom for several years and upon the first day I tell my students that authors are a different breed of humans. They see the word differently. A regular person might see an ordinary door, but an author might see a portal to another world. A table becomes a mad scientists' work table filled with beakers of liquids.

Inspiration is everywhere, you simply must stop and look.

Someone might say, "it isn't that simple". And I say to them, it really IS that simple.

Look at some everyday object, really stare at it. Notice every color, every piece of its surface. Then, just imagine it in a different way. I'm staring at my mouse right now and just thinking "A computer mouse as a real mouse, that would be something". Sometimes the thoughts that come seem silly, that is just your imagination taking flight.

Try it, and I guarantee, you will start to see that the world is full of inspiration.

You simply need to look.

Wednesday Story Starter

Imagine, for a moment, someone threatens your family. How would you save your family?

Now reverse it.

Your family threatens you.

How would you save yourself from your family?

Breaks Are The Key

When writing, I would get into the flow of it, completely enthralled then suddenly my mind would go blank.

Writer's block can be simple sometimes. Your mind might need a little break from working hard and that's fine!

Take a walk, watch some Netflix, or even do some housework.

Let your mind rest for a minute and watch it come back to life.
